Kjeller Airport

Kjeller Airport (ICAO: ENKJ) is a military and general aviation airport located in Kjeller, Norway, near Lillestrøm and 9 NM (17 km; 10 mi) east northeast of Oslo. It has facilities for carrying out maintenance for aircraft belonging to the Royal Norwegian Air Force.

Aviation has a long history at Kjeller. Kjeller is Norway's first airport, built in 1912. In the first part of the 20th century there was a small aircraft factory building military planes. There is now a small aircraft museum.

The largest plane to have landed at Kjeller is a Boeing 737 and it is frequently used by C-130 Hercules transports. Vital medicines get flown in to Kjeller for Ullevaal Hospital and Rikshospitalet; in nearby Oslo.

Famous quotes containing the word airport:

Airplanes are invariably scheduled to depart at such times as 7:54, 9:21 or 11:37. This extreme specificity has the effect on the novice of instilling in him the twin beliefs that he will be arriving at 10:08, 1:43 or 4:22, and that he should get to the airport on time. These beliefs are not only erroneous but actually unhealthy.
