Kingdom of The Netherlands - Countries

Countries

The Kingdom of the Netherlands currently consists of four constituent countries that form part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on a basis of equality. Note that there is a difference between the "Kingdom of the Netherlands" and the "Netherlands": the Kingdom of the Netherlands is the comprehensive sovereign state and the Netherlands is only one of its four countries. Three of the six Dutch Caribbean islands (Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten) each form one of the three remaining constituent countries, while the others (Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, Saba) are actually part of the country of the Netherlands and are collectively known as the Caribbean Netherlands.

Famous quotes containing the word countries:

General education is the best preventive of the evils now most dreaded. In the civilized countries of the world, the question is how to distribute most generally and equally the property of the world. As a rule, where education is most general the distribution of property is most general.... As knowledge spreads, wealth spreads. To diffuse knowledge is to diffuse wealth. To give all an equal chance to acquire knowledge is the best and surest way to give all an equal chance to acquire property.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

I have never looked at foreign countries or gone there but with the purpose of getting to know the general human qualities that are spread all over the earth in very different forms, and then to find these qualities again in my own country and to recognize and to further them.
    Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (1749–1832)

All my life I have lived and behaved very much like [the] sandpiper—just running down the edges of different countries and continents, “looking for something” ... having spent most of my life timorously seeking for subsistence along the coastlines of the world.
    Elizabeth Bishop (1911–1979)
