Kilometres Per Hour

Kilometres Per Hour

The kilometre per hour (American English: kilometer per hour) is a unit of speed, expressing the number of kilometres travelled in one hour. The unit symbol is km/h or km·h−1.

Worldwide, the km/h is the most commonly used speed unit on road signs and car speedometers. Along with the kilowatt hour, km/h is the most commonly used metric unit based on the hour, although the "hour", while not an SI unit, is accepted for use with the International System of Units by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM).

In Australian and North American slang and military usage, km/h is commonly pronounced, and sometimes even written, as klicks or kays (K's), although these may also be used to refer to kilometres.

Famous quotes containing the word hour:

I had rather munch a crust of brown bread and an onion in a corner, without any more ado or ceremony, than feed upon turkey at another man’s table, where one is fain to sit mincing and chewing his meat an hour together, drink little, be always wiping his fingers and his chops, and never dare to cough nor sneeze, though he has never so much a mind to it, nor do a many things which a body may do freely by one’s self.
    Miguel De Cervantes (1547–1616)
