New Grouping of Khmuic Ethnic

Khmu is divided into: Khmu, Khmu Cheuang, Khmu Kwaen, Khmu Khrong, Khmu Lue, Khmu Mae, Khmu Nyuan, Khmu Prai, Khmu Rork, and Khmu Ou. Ancient Khmuic People called each Khmu divided above as "sraeng" which means "group or race or clan" and they are the same ethnic Khmu". Some ethnologists also consider Kasi, Kbit or bit, and Mal as Khmu. Palaungic ethnic group is very closely related to Khmu especially Con, Samtao and Lamed. As for Mlabri, is considered as a separated ethnic and have their own language. Their tradition and culture are much different and far away to those of Khmu. Mlabri have some words resemble to those of Khmu because Mlabri is influenced by Khmu, and they also borrow some Laotian and Thai words. Except the Khmu themselves, their is another ethnic minority speaking Khmuic such as Xinh Mun or Puac in Vietnam or maybe they are also Khmu, just different name. And another one ethnic minority speaking language resemble to Khmuic is Phong khniang.
