Prosecution in France
In France in 2009 it was decided to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in absentia on terrorism charges with respect to the Ghriba synagogue bombing on the Tunisian island of Djerba in 2002 which killed 14 German tourists, five Tunisians and two French nationals, together with captured German national Christian Ganczarski and Tunisian Walid Nawar. French judges chose to separate Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's case from that of Ganczarski and Nawar and try him at a later date.

Famous quotes containing the words prosecution and/or france:
“The prosecution of [Warren] Hastings, though he should escape at last, must have good effect. It will alarm the servants of the Company in India, that they may not always plunder with impunity, but that there may be a retrospect; and it will show them that even bribes of diamonds to the Crown may not secure them from prosecution.”
—Horace Walpole (17171797)
“If my theory of relativity is proven correct, Germany will claim me as a German and France will declare that I am a citizen of the world. Should my theory prove untrue, France will say that I am a German and Germany will declare that I am a Jew.”
—Albert Einstein (18791955)
