Keyed Trumpet - Tone

Tone

Due to its physical characteristics (bore, bell, historical mouthpiece) the Keyed Trumpet is closer in tone to the Natural Trumpet than the valved trumpet. It was once said to have sounded like a "Demented Oboe... despite Haydn's efforts, the keyed trumpet had no real success- the explanation may be that the holes detracted greatly from the brilliant tone of the instrument.”

Famous quotes containing the word tone:

Whose are the truly labored sentences? From the weak and flimsy periods of the politician and literary man, we are glad to turn even to the description of work, the simple record of the month’s labor in the farmer’s almanac, to restore our tone and spirits.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Candor is a proof of both a just frame of mind, and of a good tone of breeding. It is a quality that belongs equally to the honest man and to the gentleman.
    James Fenimore Cooper (1789–1851)

It makes me hate accepting things that are probable when they are held up before me as infallibly true. I prefer these words which tone down and modify the hastiness of our propositions: “Perhaps, In some sort, Some, They say, I think,” and the like.
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)
