Computing The Planetary Acceleration
In his Principia Mathematica Philosophiae Naturalis, Newton showed that Kepler's laws imply that the acceleration of the planets are directed towards the sun and depend on the distance from the sun by the inverse square law. However, the geometrical method used by Newton to prove the result is quite complicated. The demonstration below is based on calculus.
