Keith Vaz - Employment

Employment

Before his political career, Vaz was a practising solicitor. In 1982, he was employed as a solicitor to Richmond upon Thames London Borough Council; and later as a senior solicitor to the London Borough of Islington. This position lasted until 1985, when he moved to Leicester and was employed as a solicitor at the Highfields and Belgrave Law Centre in Leicester. He remained in this role until his election to Parliament in 1987.

Famous quotes containing the word employment:

The boatmen appeared to lead an easy and contented life, and we thought that we should prefer their employment ourselves to many professions which are much more sought after. They suggested how few circumstances are necessary to the well-being and serenity of man, how indifferent all employments are, and that any may seem noble and poetic to the eyes of men, if pursued with sufficient buoyancy and freedom.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

It is easier for a man to be thought fit for an employment that he has not, than for one he stands already possessed of, and is exercising.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)

What most clearly characterizes true freedom and its true employment is its misemployment.
    —G.C. (Georg Christoph)
