Karlsruhe (district) - Coat of Arms

Coat of Arms

The top-left quarter of the coat of arms shows the symbol of Baden, which is appropriate since a large part of the Karlsruhe district belonged to Baden historically. The cross in the top-right is the symbol of the clerical state of Speyer. The three deer antlers in the bottom-right are the symbol of the state of Württemberg, and in the bottom-left is the symbol of the Wittelsbach family.

Famous quotes containing the words coat and/or arms:

    I can sit up half the night
    With some friend that has the wit
    Not to allow his looks to tell
    When I am unintelligible.
    Fifteen apparitions have I seen;
    The worst a coat upon a coat-hanger.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

    In the whole vast dome of living nature there reigns an open violence, a kind of prescriptive fury which arms all the creatures to their common doom: as soon as you leave the inanimate kingdom you find the decree of violent death inscribed on the very frontiers of life.
    Joseph De Maistre (1753–1821)
