Today
Kangaroo Ground contains the Kangaroo Ground Primary School, a tennis club, a general store, post office, a pony club, a fire station and Wellers Restaurant. Its post office is reputed to be the only one in Australia which is also a winery.
The Memorial Tower in the Kangaroo Ground War Memorial Park is one of the highest places in Melbourne. Originally built as a World War I memorial, it is presently used to monitor bushfires during the bushfire season. The grounds around the tower feature a pine sapling planted on 11 November 2005; it was taken from the original Lone Pine growing on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey.

Famous quotes containing the word today:
“But today I set the bed afire
and smoke is filling the room,
it is getting hot enough for the walls to melt,
and the icebox, a gluey white tooth.
I have on a mask in order to write my last words,
and they are just for you....”
—Anne Sexton (19281974)
“What were saying today is that youre either part of the solution or youre part of the problem.”
—Eldridge Cleaver (b. 1935)
“The East is the hearthside of America. Like any home, therefore, it has the defects of its virtues. Because it is a long-lived-in house, it bursts its seams, is inconvenient, needs constant refurbishing. And some of the family resources have been spent. To attain the privacy that grown-up people find so desirable, Easterners live a harder life than people elsewhere. Today it is we and not the frontiersman who must be rugged to survive.”
—Phyllis McGinley (19051978)
