In November 1917, Kamala gave birth to a daughter, Indira Priyadarshini, who later succeeded her father as prime minister and head of the Congress party. Kamala gave birth to a boy in November 1924, but he was premature and died 2 days later.

Famous quotes containing the words family and/or friends:

True spoiling is nothing to do with what a child owns or with amount of attention he gets. he can have the major part of your income, living space and attention and not be spoiled, or he can have very little and be spoiled. It is not what he gets that is at issue. It is how and why he gets it. Spoiling is to do with the family balance of power.
    Penelope Leach (20th century)

A man’s fortunes are the fruit of his character. A man’s friends are his magnetisms.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
