Culture

As with some Bantu groups, the Kalenjin and other Nilotes in the Great Lakes region have through interaction adopted many customs and practices from neighboring Southern Cushitic groups. The latter include the age set system of social organization, circumcision, and vocabulary terms.

In terms of subsistence modes, the Kalenjin have also traditionally practiced livestock herding.

Famous quotes containing the word culture:

Without metaphor the handling of general concepts such as culture and civilization becomes impossible, and that of disease and disorder is the obvious one for the case in point. Johan Huizinga (1872–1945)

Our culture is ill-equipped to assert the bourgeois values which would be the salvation of the under-class, because we have lost those values ourselves.
    Norman Podhoretz (b. 1930)

The highest end of government is the culture of men.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
