Districts
Kagera comprises eight administrative districts: Bukoba Urban, Bukoba Rural, Misenyi, Muleba, Karagwe, Kyerwa, Ngara and Biharamulo.
More recently, Chato district has been moved to newly formed Geita Region. However, Kagera Region maintains the same number of district after Karagwe has been divided into two: Karagwe and Kyerwa.
Until recently, the Bukuba Rural and Bukoba Urban Districts were combined as the Bukoba District.
Before year 2000, Kagera region comprised six districts: Bukoba Urban, Bukoba Rural, Muleba, Karagwe, Ngara and Biharamulo. Thereafter Bukoba Rural was divided into two: Bukoba Rural and Misenyi, Biharamulo was also divided into two districts: Biharamulo and Chato.
