Juvenile Dermatomyositis - Long Term Outlook

Long Term Outlook

Of the children diagnosed with and treated for JDM, about half will recover completely. Close to 30 percent will have weakness after the disease resolves. Most children will go into remission and have their medications eliminated within two years, while others may take longer to respond or have more severe symptoms that take longer to clear up.

A common lasting effect of JDM is childhood arthritis which can also be treated by a rheumatologist.

Famous quotes containing the words long, term and/or outlook:

In writing these Tales ... at long intervals, I have kept the book-unity always in mind ... with reference to its effect as part of a whole.
    Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849)

In eloquence, the great triumphs of the art are when the orator is lifted above himself; when consciously he makes himself the mere tongue of the occasion and the hour, and says what cannot but be said. Hence the term abandonment, to describe the self-surrender of the orator.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The white man regards the universe as a gigantic machine hurtling through time and space to its final destruction: individuals in it are but tiny organisms with private lives that lead to private deaths: personal power, success and fame are the absolute measures of values, the things to live for. This outlook on life divides the universe into a host of individual little entities which cannot help being in constant conflict thereby hastening the approach of the hour of their final destruction.
Policy statement, 1944, of the Youth League of the African National Congress. pt. 2, ch. 4, Fatima Meer, Higher than Hope (1988)
