Juno Mak
Coming from a wealthy family, Juno Mak originally attended Hong Kong International School. Juno never had academic or athletic talent and fared badly in school; he repeated the same grade level three times before dropping out. He is famous for his extravagant spending. To pursue a non-Chinese girl, Juno spent HKD100 million of his father's money to buy her a new luxury home on 56 Repulse Bay Road.
After dropping out from school, Juno was given a contract with Hong Kong record company EEG from his father's connections. Shortly after, he was involved in a scandal involving the popular Jade Solid Gold music TV programme and chart in 2003. The Hong Kong anti-corruption organization, the ICAC, was brought in to investigate Juno's father, Clement Mak, for bribing Jade Solid Gold to improve his son's chart positions and to win awards. Juno, his father and other industry figures including EEG chairman Albert Yeung were asked for questioning at some stage.
Juno Mak was booed when accepting the 2003 JSG award. It was also alleged Juno paid teenagers up to HKD700/ hour to act as his fans to give the impression he was more popular than he was. In addition, over 100 thousand copies of his first album were purchased by his father, making his album the number one album of the year even before being released in stores.
Later on the president of Universal Music Limited, Chan Siu-Po, was arrested by the ICAC for accepting a bribe.
Juno's father later made a large "investment" in Silly Thing, a record company owned by Juno's brother that has been trying to rebuild Juno's career and image. Despite low album sales and lack of endorsements, Silly Thing is determined to make Juno a success at whatever cost, including hiring producers from Japan, UK, and US, and labeling him as the "Fashion Royalty."
There has been speculation by the government that Juno is up to his old tricks when his EP "Otherside" won Commercial Radio's FM903 "Top Ten Recommended Songs" without even being released. Mak has since moved into acting and starred in the Hong Kong slasher film Dream Home, which is directed by Pang Ho Cheung. Although the movie had poor ticket sales, the studio is adamant that Juno will be a big star at whatever cost.
In his personal time, Juno enjoys collecting sport cars and clubbing.
