Juan Manuel de Rosas

Juan Manuel de Rosas (born Juan Manuel José Domingo Ortiz de Rozas y López de Osornio; March 30, 1793 – March 14, 1877), was an Argentine military officer and caudillo. He governed the province of Buenos Aires and ruled over the Argentine Confederation from 1829 until 1852 as dictator. He was forced to resign after his defeat at the Battle of Caseros against an army gathered by Justo José de Urquiza.
