JR Namba Station - History

History

The Osaka Railway opened Minatomachi Station (湊町駅?) as its terminal in Osaka on March 1, 1899. The railway was succeeded by the Kansai Railway in 1900 and was nationalized in 1907. The station was renamed JR Namba on September 4, 1994, the day Kansai International Airport opened. New underground facilities opened on March 22, 1996 and replaced the former above-ground station.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Literary works cannot be taken over like factories, or literary forms of expression like industrial methods. Realist writing, of which history offers many widely varying examples, is likewise conditioned by the question of how, when and for what class it is made use of.
    Bertolt Brecht (1898–1956)

The history of the Victorian Age will never be written: we know too much about it.
    Lytton Strachey (1880–1932)

The history of any nation follows an undulatory course. In the trough of the wave we find more or less complete anarchy; but the crest is not more or less complete Utopia, but only, at best, a tolerably humane, partially free and fairly just society that invariably carries within itself the seeds of its own decadence.
    Aldous Huxley (1894–1963)
