Unlike most professionals, Kalis has not stayed in California throughout his career, and has moved to many cities that are not as well known for their skate scenes. He has lived in Grand Rapids Michigan (where he grew up), Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Diego, and San Francisco.
