John Tavares (ice Hockey) - Playing Style

Playing Style

Tavares has been praised by his coaches for his ability to anticipate the play since he joined the OHL. A lack of speed is the most common criticism of Tavares' play, something he spent his junior career attempting to improve. Tavares' skating speed is something he greatly improved since going pro, and a lack of speed is no longer an issue on the ice.

The media hype he has encountered has led Tavares to remain guarded when speaking to the media, while his teammates and family attempt to shield him from the spotlight where they can. However, Tavares is regarded as a natural leader on the ice, and a player who puts his team first. The Generals named Tavares their team captain in 2008, while he also served as the alternate captain with the national junior team in 2009.

Famous quotes containing the words playing and/or style:

Tony Abbott: I didn’t know you played a saxophone.
Joe Pendleton: Yeah, well, a lot of people don’t know it. Even after they see me playing it they don’t know it.
    Seton I. Miller (1902–1974)

Everything ponderous, viscous, and solemnly clumsy, all long- winded and boring types of style are developed in profuse variety among Germans—forgive me the fact that even Goethe’s prose, in its mixture of stiffness and elegance, is no exception, being a reflection of the “good old time” to which it belongs, and a reflection of German taste at a time when there still was a “German taste”Ma rococo taste in moribus et artibus.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)
