John Stamos - Early Life

Early Life

Stamos was born in Cypress, California. He attended John F. Kennedy High School and Wentworth Institute of Technology. He is the oldest child and only son of Loretta (née Phillips), a former swimsuit model who was raised in England, and Bill Stamos, a restaurateur who was of Greek descent. Stamos has two younger sisters, Jannen and Alaina, who are both teachers. His family's last name was originally Stamatopoulos (Greek: Σταματόπουλος) but his paternal grandparents shortened the name to Stamos after they moved to the United States from Greece. ('-poulos' is a common Greek suffix in surnames, meaning "son of"; 'Stamato-' is the root).

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

Make-believe is the avenue to much of the young child’s early understanding. He sorts out impressions and tries out ideas that are foundational to his later realistic comprehension. This private world sometimes is a quiet, solitary
world. More often it is a noisy, busy, crowded place where language grows, and social skills develop, and where perseverance and attention-span expand.
James L. Hymes, Jr. (20th century)

The child begins life as a pleasure-seeking animal; his infantile personality is organized around his own appetites and his own body. In the course of his rearing the goal of exclusive pleasure seeking must be modified drastically, the fundamental urges must be subject to the dictates of conscience and society, urges must be capable of postponement and in some instances of renunciation completely.
    Selma H. Fraiberg (20th century)
