Famous quotes containing the word work:
“Thou hast left behind
Powers that will work for thee; air, earth, and skies;
Theres not a breathing of the common wind
That will forget thee; thou hast great allies;
Thy friends are exultations, agonies,
And love, and mans unconquerable mind.”
—William Wordsworth (17701850)
“Obvious enough that generalities work to protect the mind from the great outdoors; is it possible that this was in fact their first purpose?”
—Howard Nemerov (19201991)
“Racism is when you have laws set up, systematically put in a way to keep people from advancing, to stop the advancement of a people. Black people have never had the power to enforce racism, and so this is something that white America is going to have to work out themselves. If they decide they want to stop it, curtail it, or to do the right thing ... then it will be done, but not until then.”
—Spike Lee (b. 1956)
