Legacy
In 1977 and 1978 in eight auctions at Christie's, a major surviving portion of Evelyn's library was sold and dispersed. The British Library holds a large archive of Evelyn's personal papers including the manuscript of his Diary. The Victoria and Albert Museum has in its collection a cabinet owned by Evelyn which is thought to have housed his diaries.
In 2005 a new biography by Gillian Darley, based on full access to the archive, was published.
In 2011 a campaign was started to restore John Evelyn's garden in Deptford. See http://www.sayescourtgarden.org.uk/
