John Cummings (politician) - Personal Life

Personal Life

Single and Roman Catholic, Cummings represents a parliamentary constituency which can boast both the former Prime Minister Ramsay Macdonald, and Manny Shinwell, the longest lived parliamentarian. He has campaigned for the protection of the badger. His bag was once stolen in a Soho pub by a rentboy who used his travel documents. He used to share a flat with fellow northeastern Labour MP Ronnie Campbell and he keeps Jack Russell terriers.

Famous quotes containing the words personal life, personal and/or life:

A man lives not only his personal life, as an individual, but also, consciously or unconsciously, the life of his epoch and his contemporaries.
    Thomas Mann (1875–1955)

The secret point of money and power in America is neither the things that money can buy nor power for power’s sake ... but absolute personal freedom, mobility, privacy. It is the instinct which drove America to the Pacific, all through the nineteenth century, the desire to be able to find a restaurant open in case you want a sandwich, to be a free agent, live by one’s own rules.
    Joan Didion (b. 1934)

Women are taught that their main goal in life is to serve others—first men, and later, children. This prescription leads to enormous problems, for it is supposed to be carried out as if women did not have needs of their own, as if one could serve others without simultaneously attending to one’s own interests and desires. Carried to its “perfection,” it produces the martyr syndrome or the smothering wife and mother.
    Jean Baker Miller (20th century)
