Lasting Influence of Colet

To this day, Colet's achievement is celebrated by St Paul's School, St Paul's Girls' School and Colet Court on John Colet Day at St Paul's Cathedral (having begun in 2003).

There is also a road named after him in the London suburb of Hammersmith, W6, Colet Gardens.

Famous quotes containing the words lasting and/or influence:

Orpheus with his lute made trees
And the mountain tops that freeze
Bow themselves when he did sing.
To his music plants and flowers
Ever sprung, as sun and showers
There had made a lasting spring.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

To marry a man out of pity is folly; and, if you think you are going to influence the kind of fellow who has “never had a chance, poor devil,” you are profoundly mistaken. One can only influence the strong characters in life, not the weak; and it is the height of vanity to suppose that you can make an honest man of anyone.
    Margot Asquith (1864–1945)
