Johan Ludwig Mowinckel

Johan Ludwig Mowinckel (22 October 1870 - 30 September 1943) was a Norwegian political figure representing Venstre, the social liberal party. He served as Prime Minister of Norway between 1924 and 1926, again from 1928 until 1931, and finally between 1933 and 1935.

Born in Bergen, he founded the shipping company A/S J. Ludwig Mowinckels Rederi. He become one of Norway's most successful in his field.

His son, Johan Ludwig Mowinckel Jr., was well-known Norwegian conductor. He was Mayor Of Bergen from 1902 to 1906 and 1911 1913 where he represented Bergen Venstre. He formed his first government in 1924 when the government Berge did not manage to dissolve the alcohol-ban.
