Jiuzhou Port - History and Geography

History and Geography

Zhuhai International Container Terminals (Jiuzhou), ZICT(J), located in the city of Zhuhai on the western bank of the Pearl River Delta (PRD) in the Guangdong Province, adjacent to Macau and 36 nautical miles (67 km) from Hong Kong, commenced operations in 1993. Providing container and general cargo handling services, ZICT(J) operates five multi-purpose berths.

On 10 July 2007, a new ferry service between Jiuzhou port and Skypier in Hong Kong International Airport began. The new service will have two roundtrip sailings per day and can carry 1,300 passengers. The ferries will depart Jiuzhou at 9.30am and 3.30pm and leave the airport at 11.15am and 5pm everyday. The frequency of the 50-minute service will grow to three roundtrip sailings each day by August and four each day by January 2008.

In Spring 2009 the refurbishment of the port had been completed with new stores and facilities for passengers. Numerous gift shops and Fast food chains now have restaurants inside to serve passengers. A light white marble floor and walls brighten up the once dark waiting area. The toilets are now moved to the 1st floor and are clean. Tickets are purchased in the ground floor lobby and the boats are boarded via the first floor.

Famous quotes containing the words history and/or geography:

I believe my ardour for invention springs from his loins. I can’t say that the brassiere will ever take as great a place in history as the steamboat, but I did invent it.
    Caresse Crosby (1892–1970)

Yet America is a poem in our eyes; its ample geography dazzles the imagination, and it will not wait long for metres.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
