Jezzar Pasha - Hostility To Non-Muslims

Hostility To Non-Muslims

He led a ruthless 'holy war' (jihad) campaign against non-Muslims. Under his torture, Christians were forced to "accept" Islam. He oppressed minorities in Palestine including Christians (who were massacred) and Jews.

Historian David Dolan recounts:

Mob violence against the Jews of Hebron broke out in 1775. Safed, which had been restored by a liberal Turkish ruler after the 1660 massacre, was again sacked in 1799. At this time, a sadistic Albanian-born Muslim nicknamed "the butcher" gained power in the region. He ordered the beheading of any subject who displeased him especially dhimmi (non-Muslim) subjects.

Famous quotes containing the words hostility to and/or hostility:

I have no hostility to nature, but a child’s love to it. I expand and live in the warm day like corn and melons.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

As one who knows many things, the humanist loves the world precisely because of its manifold nature and the opposing forces in it do not frighten him. Nothing is further from him than the desire to resolve such conflicts ... and this is precisely the mark of the humanist spirit: not to evaluate contrasts as hostility but to seek human unity, that superior unity, for all that appears irreconcilable.
    Stefan Zweig (18811942)
