Janet Baker - Private Life

Private Life

She married (James) Keith Shelley in 1957 in Harrow. Following her retirement as a singer she did perform and record some spoken roles, for example the role of the Narrator in Britten's incidental music for The Rescue of Penelope; in later years, apart from occasional public appearances such as the 2009 Leeds event, she now has "nothing to do with anyone except close friends".

Famous quotes related to private life:

There is no private life which has not been determined by a wider public life.
George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)

In private life he was good-natured, chearful, social; inelegant in his manners, loose in his morals. He had a coarse, strong wit, which he was too free of for a man in his station, as it is always inconsistent with dignity. He was very able as a minister, but without a certain elevation of mind necessary for great good, or great mischief.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)
