James Maurice Wilson - Early Life

Early Life

He and his twin brother Edward Pears Wilson attended King William's College on the Isle of Man from August 1848 to midsummer 1853 (his twin died in December 1856). Their father Edward, vicar of Nocton in Lincolnshire, had earlier been headmaster there.

According to his autobiography James Maurice Wilson had a rather unhappy time at King William's College. He later studied at Sedbergh School.

He entered St. John's College, Cambridge in 1855, where he was Senior Wrangler in 1859. He received an M.A. in 1862 and was a Fellow from 1859 to 1868.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

In early times, before the floods swept across the world, there was life, albeit odd, as one can see from the fossils of mammoth bones, and there was the regime of Prince Metternich.
    Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872)

A real life, a life that leaves a deposit in the shape of something alive.... It’s difficult to say what makes a life a real life.... You could also say it depends on a person being identical with himself.
    Max Frisch (1911–1991)
