Agate's nine volumes of Ego were published in 1935, 1936, 1938, 1940, 1942, 1944, 1945 (and A Shorter Ego in two volumes, Harrap, 1946), 1947 and 1948. He also wrote volumes of The Contemporary Theatre, published by Chapman and Hall, covering 1923, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1944 and 1945. His other publications were as follows:
