Famous quotes containing the word personal:
“I would rather have as my patron a host of anonymous citizens digging into their own pockets for the price of a book or a magazine than a small body of enlightened and responsible men administering public funds. I would rather chance my personal vision of truth striking home here and there in the chaos of publication that exists than attempt to filter it through a few sets of official, honorably public-spirited scruples.”
—John Updike (b. 1932)
“The child realizes to every man his own earliest remembrance, and so supplies a defect in our education, or enables us to live over the unconscious history with a sympathy so tender as to be almost personal experience.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Q: Have you made personal sacrifices for the sake of your career?
A: Leaving a three-month-old infant in another persons house for nine hours, five days a week is a personal sacrifice.”
—Alice Cort (20th century)
