General Manager of The Blue Jays
Impressed by the success Ricciardi and Beane were having with the low-budget Athletics, the Toronto Blue Jays, who sought to cut payroll while becoming more competitive after their acquisition by Canadian media giant Rogers Communications, sought Ricciardi's services after firing then-general manager Gord Ash. On November 14, 2001, Ricciardi was hired as general manager of the Blue Jays. He signed a five-year contract with Toronto after the 2002 season, which was extended to 2010 after the 2005 season.

Famous quotes containing the words general, manager, blue and/or jays:
“Some people are under the impression that all that is required to make a good fisherman is the ability to tell lies easily and without blushing; but this is a mistake. Mere bald fabrication is useless; the veriest tyro can manage that. It is in the circumstantial detail, the embellishing touches of probability, the general air of scrupulousalmost of pedanticveracity, that the experienced angler is seen.”
—Jerome K. Jerome (18591927)
“I knew a gentleman who was so good a manager of his time that he would not even lose that small portion of it which the calls of nature obliged him to pass in the necessary-house, but gradually went through all the Latin poets in those moments. He bought, for example, a common edition of Horace, of which he tore off gradually a couple of pages, read them first, and then sent them down as a sacrifice to Cloacina: this was so much time fairly gained.”
—Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (16941773)
“They said, You have a blue guitar,
You do not play things as they are.
The man replied, Things as they are
Are changed upon a blue guitar.”
—Wallace Stevens (18791955)
“If ever there was an aviary overstocked with jays it is that Yaptown-on-the-Hudson, called New York.”
—O. Henry [William Sydney Porter] (18621910)
