J. B. Speed School Of Engineering
Speed Scientific School was founded in 1924 as part of the University of Louisville in the U.S. state of Kentucky with money from the James Breckenridge Speed Foundation which was created by his children William S. Speed and Olive Speed Sackett to honor J. B. Speed.
In 2004, the J.B. Speed Scientific School officially changed its name to the J.B. Speed School of Engineering. The term 'Scientific' was originally used to indicate that the school focused on math and science rather than trades, but was deemed to be an anachronism, hence the name change.
The school is colloquially referred to as Speed School or just Speed by students and locals.

Famous quotes containing the words speed, school and/or engineering:
“The correct rate of speed in innovating changes in long-standing social customs has not yet been determined by even the most expert of the experts. Personally I am beginning to think there is more danger in lagging than in speeding up cultural change to keep pace with mechanical change.”
—Mary Barnett Gilson (1877?)
“The problem for the King is just how strict
The lack of liberty, the squeeze of the law
And discipline should be in school and state....”
—Robert Frost (18741963)
“Mining today is an affair of mathematics, of finance, of the latest in engineering skill. Cautious men behind polished desks in San Francisco figure out in advance the amount of metal to a cubic yard, the number of yards washed a day, the cost of each operation. They have no need of grubstakes.”
—Merle Colby, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
