Soon, DJ Negro convinced Ivy Queen to go solo and in 1997, she made her solo debut with the recording of the album En Mi Imperio for the Sony International Records featuring hits like "Como Mujer". It sold more than 100,000 copies. This album gained the '97" award, naming her "The Peoples Favorite Rap Singer", by Artista magazine. Due to the success of the album in 1998, Sony took her under their wing to launch The Original Rude Girl. This second album featured artists like Don Chezina, Alex D'Castro, Domingo Quiñones and Wyclef Jean.

Then after five years without releasing an album, Ivy's third album Diva, was released in 2003. The songs were originally written by her and performed with the participation of various artists. It featured the hit singles "Quiero Bailar" (I Want To Dance), "Quiero Saber", (I Want To Know) "Papi Te Quiero" (Daddy I Love You), "Tuya Soy" (I'm Yours) and "Guillaera". Famous quotes containing the words singing and/or career:

Meanwhile, the men, with vestiges of pomp,
Race memories of king and caravan,
    High-priests, an ostrich, and a juju-man,
Go singing through the footpaths of the swamp.
