History
Pakistan came into being on August 14, 1947, for this, students played a par-excellence role. They on the account of their Quaid’s wish and desire abandoned the most important duty namely education temporarily and began to struggle for the creation of Pakistan. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah knew that whenever students insisted on anything done it, nary a force of the world was able to hamper them from their determined opinion. The young community of this country has always preserved its ideological boundaries, freedom and integrity. It is a fact this country was achieved for the sake of Islam and no one can deny that Islam is the base of it, but only those who are atheists and secular minded ones. The Thinker of Pakistan Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s poetry is a clear evidence of it. His poetry does not only encourage Pakistani youth to lead his/her life according to the principles of Islam, but it also safeguards the ideological boundaries of this country. Islami Jamiat-e- Talaba is such an organization of Muslim youth as are young, energetic, active, patriot, hardworking and true lovers of Islam. Jamiat is a ray of hope for the nation as well as for the whole Muslim Ummah. It was founded on 23 December 1947 in Lahore, Pakistan with a view to secure the ideological boundaries of the country and to preserve its freedom and integrity. Objective: To seek the pleasure of Allah by ordering human life in accordance with the principles laid down by Allah and His Messenger Muhammad (SAW)”. It is true that despite the Islamic basis, Pakistan is still being ruled and governed intermittently by army generals, civil bureaucrats, feudal property owners, industrialists and politicians having their own loaves and fishes. These people never want to let Pakistan progress according to the Islamic spirit. They have always strived to hamper the way of Islamic Revolution in this country. Due to their subversion in 1971, Pakistan divided into two parts; one might blame political or military leadership, but ethnic conflict and self-centered power game of politicians played a main role for this purpose. Jamiat did not only boycott it, but it launched a massive campaign named as “Bangladesh Namanzoor Tahreek” (Bangladesh Not Approved Moot) in 1973. During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, Islami Jamiat Talaba East Pakistan Wing (Islami Chatro ShanGho) decided to help the Pakistan Army fight against India. In order to perform a role in the battle Islami Jamiat Talaba’s Central Assembly (Markazi Shoora) announced for Jihad in the name of Al-Badar. Because of taking part in the battle, 10,000 members sought martyrdom in the battlefield. Above all, the most important and notable achievement of Jamiat is that it saved the Pakistani youth from the attacks of Communism. Islami Jamiat Talaba believes in the Oneness of Allah (SWT) and that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the last prophet of Islam. Jamiat through his movement, succeeded to declare the Ahmadis (Qadianis) the non-Believers in the national law of Pakistan. Islami Jamiat Talaba works in the educational institutions of Pakistan to eliminate the non-Islamic factors and the secularization of education, curriculum.
Jamiat is against the privatization of the national institutions. Jamiat initiated 11 points campaign for the solution of educational problems in the country. To highlight students’ problems, a four kilometre long banner with signatures of students was placed. It arranged 187 coaching classes throughout the country. A figure of 8350 students availed of this opportunity. Jamiat publishes six children magazines at provincial level that have achieved the target of 100,000 circulations. Jamiat struggled against the foundation of Agha Kahan Examination Board (AKUEB) and arranged rallies, demonstrations and processions against the conspiracies made by the secular government to spoil the Islamic Ideology of Pakistan. The foundation of Muttahidda Talaba Mahaz (MTM), an alliance of 29 student organizations is the greatest achievement of Jamiat and Jamiat’s Nazim-e-A’ala elected as the first president of the alliance. Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba organized countrywide processions, strikes and demonstrations against the Privatization and University Ordinance and joined hands with the historical alliance of teachers, students, and doctors. Jamiat established 15 Model Classrooms to highlight the concept of quality and standardized education. When the foundation of AFMY at Asia level came into being, Jamiat’s Nazim-e-A’ala appointed as its Assistant Secretary General. The organization has laid the foundation of SAFE, CERAPA and ISCH at the centre level.
Jamiat has very close links with AFMY, ICNA and WAMY. When Jamiat held its historical All Pakistan General Convention participated by 54,000 at the greenery of the University of the Punjab, Lahore, in 2003, the representatives of these overseas organizations and others came to visit the Convention. After the end of the general convention, the Pasban-e-Harm Rally crowded with 60,000 students marched from PU to Ichhra overhead bridge. Jamiat organized the true representative Students Convention in competition with the so-called students’ convention arranged by the federal government in Islamabad. A remarkable relief work was carried out for the Earthquake hit areas. The relief goods were dispatched on a very large scale. The workers of Jamiat celebrated their Eid in the earthquake-hit areas Ten Camp Schools were established in the affected areas. In addition to it, “Accommodative Study Centres” for the children of quake-affected areas in major cities of the country were also founded. Islami Jamiat-e- Talaba has a very soft image and clear point of view about all the Muslim issues including Kashmir, Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnia, Sheeshan. Jamiat’s brave colleagues participated actively in Afghan Jihad during 1979-1988 side-by-side Pak Army and with Afghani Muajahidin.
Jamiat has always struggled against the foundation of Jewish government in Palestine. Recently, Jamiat organized countless demonstrations against the reorganization of Israel by Pakistan. Moreover, Dawah, Organization, and Tarbiah of the Jamiat attract the youths and they determine to progress the country. Jamiat is a name of revolution in the educational institutions of the country. To solve legal problems of student community and establish Islamic Educational System in the country is fore and foremost objective of Jamiat. IJT has left very deep effects on the society. Today, there are countless young people whom Jamiat has made aware of aim of humanity. It gave consciousness to them and provided technical skill. Jamiat taught them how to speak gently. Whatever, Islamic leadership has appeared in this country during last few decades, Jamiat has more than 60 percent of its participation. Jamiat has given a positive role to the students’ politics in this country. It has saved the educational institutions from exploitation and corruption. Jamiat made the students as responsible citizens, brothers, and sons on the national level. Having finished negative type activities from the institutions, Jamiat inaugurated the positive traditions, programs, and activities in them. For instance, Jamiat ended the custom of “First Year Fooling” and promoted “Welcome Campaign” in lieu of it. Jamiat brought an end to music construction and drinking wine. Jamiat first time in history celebrated “Respect Teachers’ Day” and gave the students its consciousness. The organization has attempted to increase its ideals of decency among the public and glorify the image of Islam especially in colleges and university campuses across Pakistan.
Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba is one of the very few organizations in Pakistan that does not base itself on caste, race, color or language. After a tireless struggle of last 67 years, Jamiat has become the largest and the most organized students’ organization in Pakistan, indeed in the world. It has been striving for upholding the banner of Allah since its inception and its main emphasis has been at conversion of the society by preparing Islamic mindset among the nation, particularly in students. Jamiat has a conviction that without the implementation of Islamic laws, the society can never be converted into Islamic culture and cannot be able to reflect the directions of Islamic teachings onto the world.
Jamiat has always tried for the betterment of Pakistan regardless; whose ever is the ruler of Pakistan. Students are those who have been affected more by the infraction of rulers in many ways in Pakistan. Therefore, many impediments and constraints came into various shapes in the way of Jamiat to avert it to move further from its aristocratic mission of Islamization like the ban on students’ union in academic institutions that was a main source to develop influence of students. However, fortunately, Jamiat has succeeded to move forward with its global mission of Islamization. The students have abominated the bars produced by the rulers because it was due to the thought that students be avoided to involve in issues relating political concerns and national interests of the country. Hence, yet, our universities are unable to restore ban on students’ union despite the honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan has adjourned through its landmark decision to make necessary arrangements for students’ elections in the universities and colleges of Pakistan.
Now, Islami Jamiat-e- Talaba is the biggest organization amongst students in Pakistan. It has never deviated from its basic mission and goal of establishment of an Islamic Society, which guarantees peace, justice, employment, prosperity, education, health and social security for its inhabitants. Jamiat’s enemies and secular lobbies are trying to deteriorate its esteem, respect and honor, but Jamiat is a blessing of Allah (SWT). The prayers of mothers, sisters and daughters are circling round this great organization. It is always girded up to give every kind of sacrifice for the Muslim Ummah. This is a consequence of Jamiat’s endeavor that many of its accomplices have presented their immolation in Kashmir, Afghanistan and in Pakistan against the rival forces. Islami Jamiat Talaba has been trying to save the youths from astray, delinquency, obscenity by showing them a path of righteousness and good deeds for the sake of infinite hereafter and the success in this worldly life. This is because of view that only youths could play decisive role in any revolution because of the historical fact that revolutions come with the help of young and dynamic factor and this is an obligation for revolution that a big part of its followers and associates shall follow ethics and morals. No doubt Jamiat is a trend settler in regard to that it fractionated the effects of left and secular lobbies in educational institutions of Pakistan since the decade of 80’s, subsequently these lobbies are in a desperate plight to defend itself in the academic institutions within the entity of Pakistan. Therefore, Jamiat’s endeavor is widely acclaimed in every element of life including religious scholars, teachers, students, intellectuals, politicians and those who belong to Pakistan’s defense” The youth of Jamiat are committed and keep an aim that their Lord be pleased with them, that they be able to obtain His gracious approbation, and that when they ultimately stand before Him for the final judgment, they might be reckoned as worthy of success and salvation.
Jamiat has a conviction that without the implementation of Islamic laws, the society can never be converted into Islamic culture and cannot be able to reflect the directions of Islamic teachings onto the world. Jamiat has always tried for the betterment of Pakistan regardless, whose ever is the ruler of Pakistan. Students are those who have been affected more by the infraction of rulers in many ways in Pakistan. Therefore, many impediments and constraints came into various shapes in the way of political struggle for the sovereign Pakistan. the ban on students' union in academic institutions played a major role to limit the civil society to play its role in nursing the political culture of dialogue and debate. Jamiat always won the field of debate and dialogue in the institution through its effective and merit based socio-political activities. Jamiat produced a cadre of visionary students who played a positive role in Pakistani society. The students have abominated the bars produced by the rulers because it was due to the thought that students be avoided to involve in issues relating political concerns and national interests of the country. Hence, yet, our universities are unable to restore ban on students' union despite the honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan has adjourned through its landmark decision to make necessary arrangements for students' elections in the universities and colleges of Pakistan. The new prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani announced to lift the ban on students union but still there does not seems to be implemented as there are reservations from the military allies of the present government. In fact the main authority is still the military junta which is not in favour of nourishment of the nursery for political training to continue its rule forever in Pakistan through conspiracies and blackmailing. Jamiat always was the target of these elements and the man was focused to crush the voice of Jamiat, which in turn is the voice of visionary Pakistanis.
