Three and Four Dimensions

In three dimensions, the Ising model was shown to have a representation in terms of non-interacting Fermionic lattice strings by Alexander Polyakov. In dimensions near four, the critical behavior of the model is understood to correspond to the renormalization behavior of the scalar phi-4 theory (see Kenneth Wilson).
