Interstate 27 (I-27) is an intrastate Interstate Highway, located entirely in the U.S. state of Texas, running north from Lubbock to Interstate 40 in Amarillo. These two cities are the only control cities on I-27; other cities and towns served by I-27 include (from south to north) New Deal, Abernathy, Hale Center, Plainview, Kress, Tulia, Happy, and Canyon. In Amarillo, I-27 is commonly known as the Canyon Expressway, although it is only Canyon Expressway on frontage roads. I-27 officially designated as the Marshall Formby Memorial Highway after former attorney and Texas State Senator Marshall Formby. However, the name is not commonly used, the colloquial reference by the general public is I-27. The entire length of I-27 replaced U.S. Highway 87 for through traffic.

Famous quotes containing the word interstate:
“At bottom, I mean profoundly at bottom, the FBI has nothing to do with Communism, it has nothing to do with catching criminals, it has nothing to do with the Mafia, the syndicate, it has nothing to do with trust-busting, it has nothing to do with interstate commerce, it has nothing to do with anything but serving as a church for the mediocre. A high church for the true mediocre.”
—Norman Mailer (b. 1923)
