An Internet service provider (ISP) is an organization that provides access to the Internet.
Internet service providers can be either community-owned and non-profit, or privately owned and for-profit.
Access ISPs directly connect clients to the Internet using copper wires, wireless or fiber-optic connections. Hosting ISPs lease server space for smaller businesses and other people (colocation). Transit ISPs provide large amounts of bandwidth for connecting hosting ISPs to access ISPs.

Famous quotes containing the words service and/or provider:
“Human life consists in mutual service. No grief, pain, misfortune, or broken heart, is excuse for cutting off ones life while any power of service remains. But when all usefulness is over, when one is assured of an unavoidable and imminent death, it is the simplest of human rights to choose a quick and easy death in place of a slow and horrible one.”
—Charlotte Perkins Gilman (18601935)
“That is the thankless position of the father in the familythe provider for all, and the enemy of all.”
—J. August Strindberg (18491912)
