Intercession Of Saints
Intercession of the saints is a doctrine held by Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and some Anglican churches, that saints including the Blessed Virgin Mary may be asked to intercede (or pray) for others. The doctrine of requesting intercession from saints can be found in Christian writings from the 3rd century AD. The 4th-century Apostles' Creed states belief in the communion of saints.

Famous quotes containing the words intercession and/or saints:
“I cannot exaggerate the waste of the Presidents time and the consumption of his nervous vitality involved in listening to congressmens intercession as to local appointments. Why should the President have to have his time taken up in a discussion over ... who shall be the postmistress of Devils Lake, in North Dakota? How should he be able to know ... who is best fitted to fill such a place?”
—William Howard Taft (18571930)
“We know of no scripture which records the pure benignity of the gods on a New England winter night. Their praises have never been sung, only their wrath deprecated. The best scripture, after all, records but a meagre faith. Its saints live reserved and austere. Let a brave, devout man spend the year in the woods of Maine or Labrador, and see if the Hebrew Scriptures speak adequately to his condition and experience.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
