Inner West - Suburbs

Suburbs

The inner west is not a precise geographical region. The Australian Bureau of Statistics limits its Inner Western Sydney statistical region to the local government areas of Canada Bay, Ashfield, Burwood and Strathfield. The NSW Government's Metropolitan Strategy adds the local government area of Leichhardt to its Inner West subregion. Local newspaper, the Inner West Courier, includes the suburbs in the local government areas of Leichhardt and Marrickville as well as some western suburbs of the City of Sydney such as Glebe and Erskineville.

Famous quotes containing the word suburbs:

With four walk-in closets to walk in,
Three bushes, two shrubs, and one tree,
The suburbs are good for the children,
But no place for grown-ups to be.
    Judith Viorst (b. 1935)

In an expanding universe, time is on the side of the outcast. Those who once inhabited the suburbs of human contempt find that without changing their address they eventually live in the metropolis.
    Quentin Crisp (b. 1908)

Everywhere—all over Africa and South America ... you see these suburbs springing up. They represent the optimum of what people want. There’s a certain sort of logic leading towards these immaculate suburbs. And they’re terrifying, because they are the death of the soul.... This is the prison this planet is being turned into.
