Ingraham High School - The Candy Man

The Candy Man

A student known simply as "The Candy Man" was a student who operated out of school lockers to sell candy to high school students. The Candy Man came into existence in 2005 when Seattle Public Schools banned the sale of junk food on school grounds, and continued to operate up until his graduation in 2007. The student's individual organization was a non-profit charity business that had benefited Hurricane Katrina Relief, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and the Millennium Villages Project. While some bought from him and others actively reprimanded his actions, most, including principal Martin Floe, opted to "look the other way" without condoning his behavior. In the 2007-2008 school year, a successor to the Candy Man emerged to continue the business at Ingraham.

Famous quotes containing the words candy and/or man:

I’m headed for a land that’s far away
    Beside the crystal fountains.
So come with me, we’ll go and see
    The Big Rock Candy Mountains.
—Unknown. The Big Rock Candy Mountains (l. 5–8)

In another year I’ll have enough money saved. Then I’m gonna go back to my hometown in Oregon and I’m gonna build a house for my mother and myself. And join the country club and take up golf. And I’ll meet the proper man with the proper position. And I’ll make a proper wife who can run a proper home and raise proper children. And I’ll be happy, because when you’re proper, you’re safe.
    Daniel Taradash (b. 1913)
