Infantry Support Gun - Modern Times

Modern Times

Very few support guns are still in service with infantry units; their roles largely replaced in part by-

  • grenade launchers
  • light anti-tank weapons
  • heavier wire-guided missiles in engaging point targets such as structures.
  • Pack guns are similar in concept, but specifically refer to those guns that are meant to be disassembled into parts for movement, and are synonymous with mountain guns as infantry support weapons designed for use during mountain combat.
  • Airborne guns are those designed for use by paratroopers, and generally reflect similar design features of portability and lighter weight when compared to field artillery.

Famous quotes containing the words modern times, modern and/or times:

Tried by a New England eye, or the more practical wisdom of modern times, they are the oracles of a race already in its dotage; but held up to the sky, which is the only impartial and incorruptible ordeal, they are of a piece with its depth and serenity, and I am assured that they will have a place and significance as long as there is a sky to test them by.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

O born in days when wits were fresh and clear,

Before this strange disease of modern life,

Its head o’ertaxed, its palsied hearts, was rife—
    Matthew Arnold (1822–1888)

Adultery itself in its principle is many times nothing but a curious inquisition after, and envy of another man’s enclosed pleasures: and there have been many who refused fairer objects that they might ravish an enclosed woman from her retirement and single possessor.
    Jeremy Taylor (1613–1667)
