The areas that are completely or more than halfway on the plain are:

Small parts of the following administrative areas may also be part of the plain:

- Madhya Pradesh
- Meghalaya
- Jharkhand
- Orissa
- Pakistan
- Balochistan
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
- Kashmir region
