In The Midnight Hour - in Popular Culture

In Popular Culture

The song plays during a mind-movie flashback (titled “Viet Cong Lookout”) of an experience at a bar during the Vietnam War that the character Johnny Marinville (Tom Skerritt) has in Stephen King’s film Desperation.

The song is sampled in the Super NES game EarthBound, as one of the songs played by the in-universe band Runaway Five, with the lyrics changed to 'Midnight Cosworth' due to the game's Midnight Blue Ford Sierra Cosworth.

The song is used in the sequel Fright Night Part II as well as its trailer.

The song is also played in the 2010 movie Megamind.

Famous quotes containing the words popular and/or culture:

O, popular applause! what heart of man
Is proof against thy sweet, seducing charms?
    William Cowper (1731–1800)

Both cultures encourage innovation and experimentation, but are likely to reject the innovator if his innovation is not accepted by audiences. High culture experiments that are rejected by audiences in the creator’s lifetime may, however, become classics in another era, whereas popular culture experiments are forgotten if not immediately successful. Even so, in both cultures innovation is rare, although in high culture it is celebrated and in popular culture it is taken for granted.
    Herbert J. Gans (b. 1927)
