Illinois Route 171 (IL 171) is a north–south state road in northeastern Illinois. It runs from U.S. Route 6 (US 6) in Joliet north to IL 72 at the Chicago–Park Ridge border. This is a distance of 38.61 miles (62.14 km). The section of IL 171 on Archer Avenue from Joliet to Summit is historically significant, originating as a Native American trail, and later serving for a time as part of the first numbered highway between St. Louis and Chicago.
The current Illinois Route 171 incorporates part or all of previous IL 4, IL 4A, and IL 213.

Famous quotes containing the words illinois and/or route:
“An Illinois woman has invented a portable house which can be carried about in a cart or expressed to the seashore. It has also folding furniture and a complete camping outfit.”
—Lydia Hoyt Farmer (18421903)
“By whatever means it is accomplished, the prime business of a play is to arouse the passions of its audience so that by the route of passion may be opened up new relationships between a man and men, and between men and Man. Drama is akin to the other inventions of man in that it ought to help us to know more, and not merely to spend our feelings.”
—Arthur Miller (b. 1915)
