Ileo-anal Pouch - Pouchitis

Pouchitis

Pouchitis is an inflammation of the ileo-anal pouch, which occurs particularly in cases where the pouch has been created to manage colitis. The symptoms are normally somewhat similar but less acute than those of colitis, and include (sometimes bloody) diarrhoea, urgency or difficulty in passing stools, and, in few cases, pain. The standard treatment for pouchitis is a 7 to 10 day course of a combination ciprofloxacin and metronidazole.
