Mission

As the Marine Corps' forward-deployed Marine Air-Ground Task Force, the III MEF is a force in readiness able to deploy rapidly by any and all means and conduct operations through Marine Expeditionary Units and Marine Expeditionary Brigades across the spectrum from humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to amphibious assault and high-intensity combat. The III MEF maintains a forward presence in Japan and Asia to support the United States - Japanese Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security and our other alliance relationships. It conducts combined operations and training throughout the region in support of our National Security Strategy for Theater Security Cooperation.

Famous quotes containing the word mission:

The mission of men there seems to be, like so many busy demons, to drive the forest all out of the country, from every solitary beaver swamp and mountain-side, as soon as possible.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

We can come up with a working definition of life, which is what we did for the Viking mission to Mars. We said we could think in terms of a large molecule made up of carbon compounds that can replicate, or make copies of itself, and metabolize food and energy. So that’s the thought: macrocolecule, metabolism, replication.
    Cyril Ponnamperuma (b. 1923)

Every Age has its own peculiar faith.... Any attempt to translate into facts the mission of one Age with the machinery of another, can only end in an indefinite series of abortive efforts. Defeated by the utter want of proportion between the means and the end, such attempts might produce martyrs, but never lead to victory.
    Giuseppe Mazzini (1805–1872)
