Hungarian Cup

The Hungarian Cup (Hungarian: Magyar Kupa) is the Hungarian cup competition for football clubs. It has been incepted by the Hungarian Football Association, the Magyar Labdarúgó Szövetség in 1909, eight years after the commencement of the Hungarian League, the Nemzeti Bajnokság.

Besides all of the professional clubs of Hungary numerous amateur sides take part every year. These have to qualify through local cup competitions.

Most successful participant in the Magya Kupa has been the Ferencvarosi TC with 20 wins, followed by the local rivals from MTK Hungária FC with 12 cups. The current holders are Debrecen.

Famous quotes containing the word cup:

There is not enough exercise in this way of life. I try to make up by active gymnastics before I dress when I get up, by walking rapidly in the lower hall and the greenhouse after each meal for perhaps five to ten minutes, and a good hand rubbing before going to bed. I eat moderately; drink one cup of coffee at breakfast and one cup of tea at lunch and no other stimulant. My health is now, and usually, excellent.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)
