Human Population Control - Methods

Methods

Population control may use one or more of the following practices although there are other methods as well

  • contraception
  • abstinence
  • reducing infant mortality so that parents do not increase their family size to ensure at least some survive to adulthood.
  • abortion
  • infanticide
  • improving status of women
  • war
  • emigration
  • decreasing immigration
  • sterilization
  • euthanasia

The method(s) chosen can be strongly influenced by the religious and cultural beliefs of community members. The failure of other methods of population control can lead to the use of abortion or infanticide as solutions. While a specific population control practice may be legal/mandated in one country, it may be illegal or restricted in another, indicative of the controversy surrounding this topic.

Famous quotes containing the word methods:

All good conversation, manners, and action, come from a spontaneity which forgets usages, and makes the moment great. Nature hates calculators; her methods are saltatory and impulsive.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Generalization, especially risky generalization, is one of the chief methods by which knowledge proceeds... Safe generalizations are usually rather boring. Delete that “usually rather.” Safe generalizations are quite boring.
    Joseph Epstein (b. 1937)

The ancient bitter opposition to improved methods [of production] on the ancient theory that it more than temporarily deprives men of employment ... has no place in the gospel of American progress.
    Herbert Hoover (1874–1964)
