Hughes Airwest (IATA: RW, ICAO: n/a, Call sign: Hughes-Air) was a United States airline that was backed by Howard Hughes. Hughes Airwest flew routes around the western United States and to certain points in Mexico and Canada. The airline was purchased by Republic Airlines on October 1, 1980. The headquarters were originally located in two separate office buildings in downtown San Mateo County, California. In August of 1973, Hughes Airwest moved their international headquarters into a new complex high atop a hill overlooking San Mateo and San Francisco Bay.
